After graduating from university with a First Class degree in Business Studies, Paul started his career in insurance in 2004, joining bpw Insurance in the accounts department. As time went on he took on further responsibilities and eventually moved into a managerial position.

In 2008 the existing partners retired and along with Peter Williams and Jason Evans, took over the company through a Management Buy-out. Since taking over the company, Paul has become responsible for all aspects of managing the business, on both operational and strategic levels.

Paul is passionate about professional development and achieved his Advanced Diploma, ACII, as well as achieving Chartered Insurance Broker status in under two years (an achievement that normally takes at least 5 years).

Whilst completing his studies, Paul also won a place on the Chartered Insurance Institute’s 2014 ‘New Generation Programme’ – which selects ten individuals throughout the entire UK to take part in a programme of events, seminars, and workshops with the opportunity to benefit from increased exposure to market issues and discussions with key personnel within the insurance industry at the highest levels.

In recognition of his drive for personal development, Paul won the Insurance Institute of Cardiff’s prestigious ‘Young Achiever of the Year Award 2015’.

This annual award given to an individual who has gone far beyond their role in the insurance or financial industry and have demonstrated exceptional achievements, talent and development in their profession.

In the same year, Paul was also runner-up in the Welsh Government’s VQ ‘Learner of the Year Awards’.

During this time, Paul also became a member of the Insurance Institute of Cardiff’s ‘Young Professionals Group’ (now known as Novus). Starting out as the Events Officer and organising several events specifically tailored for insurance professionals under the age of 35, went on to become President the Young Professionals Group a year later. Part of the role of President involved liaising with the Insurance Institute of Cardiff’s main council which Paul then joined following his time with the Young Professionals Group in 2015.

Since joining the Insurance Institute of Cardiff’s main council, Paul has held several roles including Events Officer, Dinner Secretary, and BIBA Liaison Officer.

In 2017, Paul was elected to the illustrious position of President of the Insurance Institute of Cardiff.

The President is ultimately responsible for all the activities, educational, social and charitable and is the head of the team of elected local institute officers and council members, as well as being an ambassador for the local institute at all local, regional and national functions.

As a tradition, each year the President of the institute undertakes a ‘challenge’ to raise money for a chosen charity. For his challenge, Paul completed a 100 mile, non-stop, ultra marathon for the charity ‘2 Wish Upon a Star’, raising over £2,000.

Paul continues to regularly take part in endurance events, from 5ks to ultra marathons, including other 100-mile+ races (with a current personal best finish time for 100 miles of 20 hours 33 minutes). He has won, and placed top three, in several ultra-marathon events.

In 2021, Paul qualified for the prestigous Spartathlon ultra marathon – a 154-mile race from Athens to Sparta (in 35 degree+ heat). Unfortunatley, he was forced to withdraw due to injury after 80 miles, but hopes to return to Greece to compete again.

Paul remains active within the local insurance industry, and was the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 Chair of the South Wales region committee of British Insurance Brokers Association (BIBA).

In achieving this position, Paul is one of less than a handful of people to have held the role of both President of the Insurance Institute of Cardiff as well as BIBA South Wales Regional Chair.

In 2022, Paul was elected as a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Insititute (FCII). Fellowship of the CII is the highest level qualification for those working in the insurance profession and represents a long term commitment to continuous improvement and professionalism.

In 2023, Paul was the recipient of ‘The President’s Award’ from the Insurance Institute of Cardiff.

The President’s Award is recognition for the impact that these figureheads have had over the course of their careers. It is based on not just their own success, but the success of the businesses they’ve been involved in, and the success of the people they’ve inspired around them.

The award honours the brightest, most inspiring contributors to the insurance industry within their region. It rewards the real champions of professional ethics and promoters of professional development.
